Tasmanian Divers Group was engaged by Shaw Contracting to provide commercial diving services during the replacement of the Bruny Island submarine power cable connecting Tinderbox and Dennes Point. The project restored the primary electricity supply to Bruny Island, replacing the original submarine cable that had been in service since 1949.

Working alongside Shaw Contracting and Fugro's offshore installation team, TDG supported the marine installation works by completing diver-assisted cable protection and installation activities. The scope included installation of articulated protective shell armour over the submarine cable at designated shore crossings, diver support during cable landings, jet trenching, removal of redundant submarine cable sections and post-installation verification works.

The project required close coordination between commercial divers, marine vessels, cable installation personnel and survey teams to safely complete the installation while maintaining cable integrity and meeting the project's quality requirements. The articulated shell protection system was installed to provide long-term mechanical protection to the cable in areas vulnerable to external damage and seabed movement.
