Tasmanian Divers Group was engaged by Hydro Tasmania to provide commercial diving services for the refurbishment of the Trevallyn Power Station intake structure. Working alongside Hydro Tasmania, Entura and Billings Cranes, TDG supported the replacement of the intake trash rack system, including the structural steelwork and screening components that protect the power station turbines from debris.

The project involved the installation of a temporary steel support framework, allowing the power station to remain operational outside of scheduled work periods while the existing intake components were progressively removed and replaced. All installation and removal activities were completed underwater within a low-visibility environment, requiring precise positioning and close coordination between divers, riggers, crane operators and engineering personnel.

The scope included underwater inspections, hydraulic drilling, BROCO cutting, cavitation cleaning, underwater grouting and complex rigging operations in conjunction with a 250-tonne crane. Detailed planning and engineering coordination commenced well in advance of the construction phase to ensure the safe execution of each stage of the works.

The successful delivery of the Trevallyn Trash Rack Refurbishment demonstrates TDG's capability to undertake complex underwater construction, maintenance and infrastructure renewal projects while working collaboratively with asset owners, engineers and specialist contractors to maintain critical operational requirements.
